Staines Upon Thames Day – Fun for All

With longer days and warmer weather the season of outdoor events is well underway and one that has been gathering momentum from year to year is the annual Staines-upon-Thames Day. Celebrating the Spelthorne Borough’s cultural, historical and environmental heritage the Staines-upon-Thames Day, taking place on Sunday 28 June 2015, embraces a wide range of events and activities taking place on and along the River Thames from boat rides and duck races to live music and children’s entertainment as well as craft & community stalls, pony rides, canoeing and kayaking taster sessions, fairground rides, vintage cars and so much more.

New for 2015 is the Staines-upon-Thames Day Dragon Boat Challenge where teams of 12-16 paddlers will compete in a minimum of 3 races for a place in the finals to win the £250 cash prize for the charity of their choice and a trophy. A variety of charities, sporting groups, schools, clubs, pubs, businesses family and friends will be competing on the day, raising funds for local causes and having fun at the same time.

Kicking off from 11.00am the day is a fantastic platform for local, bands, dancers, singers, entertainers and sports groups to take to the main stage and the performance arena to entertain and demonstrate some the talent that can be found in and around the borough of Spelthorne. Cheerleading, street dance, martial arts and football skills are just some of the performances on offer.

An important part of this event is the opportunity for local charities and community groups to raise awareness for the service they provide and, for some, much-needed funds. It is a great way to engage with the general public not only for fundraising purposes but also to recruit new members and supporters. The Egham & Virginia Water Branch of the RNLI, Spelthorne Rentstart, The Penrose Club for Adults with Special Needs, Staines & Ashford Lions Club, Ashford Hospital League of Friends, VAIS, Free Cakes for Kids and Spelthorne Canoe & Kayak Club are among some of charities supported.

Also providing some of the fun will be many of the sponsors without which the day could not happen. The Staines-upon-Thames Day is grateful to headline sponsors including a2dominion, A Plan, BlaserMills, Berry Heathrow BMW/Mini, Heathrow, Oasis Estate Agents, Sodexo, The Thames Club, Thorpe Park, Wilkins Kennedy as well as gold sponsors 360 Mortgages, Elmsleigh Centre, Planen Kitchens, Pollen Homes, Staines FC and Timeless IT. We are also grateful for the continued support of Spelthorne Borough Council.
