Creativity Brings the Sun out in Sunbury

Sunbury has been in the news for all the wrong reasons over the past months. The floods made headlines for weeks, and more recently we were in the news after the raid on our local building society.
This month’s cover by local artist Daphne Clement shows the beauty of Sunbury’s Rivermead Island at sunrise when the flood waters had covered it. A poignant reminder of how we can still see beauty in adversity.

Sunbury is now rising from the flood waters and July will put Sunbury on the map for all the right reasons; Creativity and Community spirit.
Sunbury Working Artists is a collaborative group of creatives from Sunbury-On-Thames, including painters, potters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers and textile artists. Sunbury Matters has featured many of the group on front covers during the years, but this is the first time so many of them have joined forces to showcase their work over one weekend.

From July 11th-13th you can visit them in various venues in Lower Sunbury. You can meet them and hear about their talent and style. Works exhibited are for sale directly from the artists and you will be able to see just what a talent we have in our community. A trail map will be available from the village and we will be featuring all the artists in next months issue.

That weekend also sees the Picnic in the Park at the Walled Garden where you can hopefully eat al fresco while you are entertained by some lovely music. Now we just need the Sun to shine on Sunbury that weekend please!
