The team at Dramatize Tea Room has a lot to be proud of at the end of this first year. They have built and furnished a lovely venue at the heart of Charlton Village and been recognised for their efforts at the 2021 Spelthorne Busi-ness Awards. The theatrical theme runs throughout, with posters, music from the stage playing in the background, and of course the spectacular theatre backdrop, so perfect for photos. Tea and cakes are served on china, making it feel special, a throw back to a different era. Cakes are home made and always served with a smile. The tea room is an offshoot of Dramatize theatre group. It gives adults with learning disabilities the op-portunity to get work experience and training to set them on their way to paid employment. This little tea room has certainly contributed to the community. As an example of their warm hearts, on June 4th 12.30-3pm they are serving cream tea FREE of charge to the com-munity. Just bring your own chair.
Conscious of the need to cut back on waste, the team has taken to leaving a surprise box of left over cake on the doorstep of villagers. With it is a card saying “We have this left over and thought we would share it with you….” How is that for spreading some hap-piness!
The venue is a great place for friends to meet and have a chat, but it is increasingly being used as a destination for afternoon teas for organised groups. They do it well! They have hosted networking events too. So if you are looking for a venue, give these guys a thought. And if you fancy something a little stronger than tea, you can get a glass of prosecco or a gin and tea. Believe me, it is worth trying.
Dramatize Tea Room was lucky to be one of Cllr Colin Barnard’s charities during his mayoral year. They have also benefited from some of the councillor neighbourhood grants and are supported by the Charlton Village Residents Association.
