Village Matters

Shepperton Residents’ Association

By Carl Phillips

I guess one of the most amazing sights we have seen for a few years was outside Sainsbury’s on Saturday 5th March!

This was the response of the Shepperton residents to the call for clothes, bedding, toiletries and medicines for UKRAINE.

This action was brought about by Mike Brennan, a local resident. Mike was supported by Maureen Attewell, with some help on the day from a few of our councillors, local residents, as well as your Residents’ Association.

It was met with a HUGE response from you Sheppertonians! You can see these results in a further article within this magazine.

WELL DONE SHEPPERTON!

By the time you read this, we will have had our Open Meeting / AGM (21st March) in the Vil-lage Hall. We will comment on those proceedings in the next edition of ‘Shepperton Matters’.

On the High Street a couple of new shop closures have occurred, but these, I’ve been informed, are voluntary decisions concerning landlord issues, not re-development of the land. Generally, the High Street is holding its own at present.

When I was “on the street” with the stand in mid March, there were, what have become a num-ber of the usual concerns about access to our GPs, whether in person or on the phone. This is a continuing issue. Questions were also asked about the Studios expansion work, and how posi-tioning of the car parks appears to have changed from the original plans. Also, a couple of que-ries on the Esso pipeline project that is beginning, near to Chertsey Bridge, with the clearance of vegetation, in advance of setting up the compound for the work. This is temporary situation, while the pipe is being laid, which does not directly affect Shepperton, although it is likely to cause a few traffic problems, in the wider area, during the work.

As reported last time, the vegetation was being cleared to make way for the M3 Noise Barriers – this topic will also be covered at the meeting.

There will be more detail in the next edition, following the Open Meeting, but, in the mean-time, please GO OUT! Meet your friends and neighbours and Shopkeepers in your High Street!

– Keep the place buzzing!
