Capture Spelthorne Competition Winners Revealed

Congratulations to all the winners of the council run Capture Spelthorne photography competition. This year saw a record 400 entries. Overall winner was Shortwood Common Majesty by Elaine Wisden which also won best Hidden Gem category.

The objective of the competition was to highlight areas of beauty within the borough and get residents looking at Spelthorne through fresh eyes. This photo certainly did the job for me. I had never heard of Shortwood Common, which is a nature reserve outside Staines and looks like a great place to explore.

Urban Landscape winner was by Bill Hiett for his Beating Heart of Spelthorne and a dramatic landscape shot of Staines station.
I have to confess to being delighted that the winner of the Living in Spelthorne category was in fact Monica Chard! This taken early one morning from Desborough Island looking at the sailing club.

The junior category was won by Olivia Rodricks for her Stag Beetle.
Finally Barry Dix won the Water category with ‘Reflecting on the Past’.
