Shepperton Ladies celebrate 60 years

This milestone was worthy of a good celebration. Shepperton Ladies Club has been a central part of the Community throughout their 60 years, from supporting young housewives in the early years to now providing a great service for many residents from Shepperton and the surrounding area, with a programme including great speakers and outings for all.

One lady has been heading up this group for almost 50 years, and has made a huge difference to the lives of many local ladies. We have met and written about June Barnard in Shepperton Matters before. What a dynamo this lady has been! She has been the driving force of the club, researching, booking and organising all the details of events and outings. June has kept the club running like a family and many deep friendships have been forged during those years. She kept the club go-ing through the pandemic, keeping in touch by regular newsletters and phone calls to members, keeping them all motivated and engaged. As soon as she had the chance to start events again, there was no stopping her!

June has done all this voluntarily. That is sheer dedication. Talking to her about her ladies and the very many trips she has organised for them, she becomes animated and her eyes shine with pride and excitement. She loves nothing better than to see her group thrive and enjoy life.

The evening also celebrated five other long standing members of the club who have been part of it since the very first page of the members attendance book which was started in 1997!

If you would like to join the ladies, they are always happy to welcome new members. Just contact Karen Bunn on 07557 969152 or email karenbunn6@gmail.com.
