Youth Speaks – Seniors

Shepperton Aurora Rotary Club held the sec-ond Youth Speaks competitions on November 23rd at the Jubilee Centre, Manygate Lane, Shepperton. This time the students taking part were from Years 10 and above. Once again, Covid 19 affected the number of teams taking part. There were four secondary schools repre-sented on the evening and all the students de-livered confidant speeches. As always, the adjudicators who were Mandy Smith, John Ashcroft and Jane Longworth, did not have an easy time. After much deliberating the results were announced.

The winning team was Sunbury Manor School (above) with their debate on “Our school sys-tem must be overhauled to meet the challenges of modern society” and Rebekah Cloake from Sunbury Manor School was named best proposer.

Mia Brown from The Matthew Arnold School was named the best opposer; her team debated “The Death Penalty…a true form of jus-tice”

Daniel Bootle-Wilbraham (pictured left) from Halliford School was named the best chair; his team debated “Why women make better leaders than men”

Everyone was in agreement that the evening had been very success-ful and enjoyable.
