Village Matters

Sunbury Market – A Community Tonic

By Monica Chard

The Sunbury Christmas market this year was considered by many to be the best ever! Maybe it was because we all appreciated it so much more, having had to suspend it last year. There were 30 stalls selling crafts, gifts, hot food and cocktails. There was a fun ride, Santa’s grotto and of course Dennis’s fabulous alpine village shop window. The Salvation Army were as usual willing to give their time to play Christmas carols and many joined in. The event was put on by the Lower Sunbury Business Community and proceeds will go to village projects. But we must thank one person in particular. John Carey (pictured right) took it upon himself to do most of the legwork and he should be so proud of what he achieved.

But thanks also to the following; Paul from Platinum Roof-ing who put up the Christmas lights on Avenue parade; Laura from Laura’s Hair and Beauty for the grotto; Mona Usher from Samara Cuisine for selling raffle tickets; Andy Wilmott, Town Centre Manager for Spelthorne Council and to Monica Chard from Sunbury Matters. All played an im-portant role in making this event special. Thanks to all of you who came along and supported the event. Here is a selection of photos of the evening:
