Association “Best Show Yet”
The Autumn Show was well attended with lots of entries. The committee were delighted and declared it the best ever. The awards were presented by Alison from Longacres who are sponsors. Winners were as follows:

Most points in the show – Nicola Cumber
Banksian Medal for the prize money in flowers, fruit and vegetables – Jim Adams
Most points in Garden flowers and pot plants, fruit, dahlias and Domestic – Nicola Cumber
Most points in Floral – Pamela Fifoot
Most points in Chrysanthemums-Stella Smith

Local allotment holder Ray Tanner won a major medal for the first time. It was in the largest section so to get most points in vegetables, where there were thirty classes, he did very well indeed, fending off the winners of this medal from past years.
A newcomer to our show in 2017, Sylvie Mellersh, won the best exhibit in the Floral Art section and the £5 Jeanette Sider Memorial Prize, plus a £5 garden voucher.

Bob Calder did very well winning three awards for the best exhibit of vegetables (a collection of five different types of vegetables), best exhibit of fruit (three pears) and best exhibit of flowers. (three vases of garden flowers)
Best exhibit preserving – Pauline Roberts
Best exhibit baking –  Robyn Palmer

“The show was amazing” said Pauline Roberts “full of colour and the exhibits were of a good quality.  The judges told us that it ranks as one of the best in the area. We equalled our largest number of entries and the show goes from strength to strength, which is good for keeping the spirit of the village alive.” The Domestic Section was a closely fought section, decided by only one point, as was the Floral Art.

This event is a true community affair. It is not necessarily about winning, but the fun of taking part and producing some wonderful exhibits. This is open to adults and children so don’t be shy. Do take part next year.
