Residents Concerned at Speeding Traffic approaching Sunbury

Residents living at either end of Lower Sunbury village are becoming increasingly concerned about speeding traffic.

The Lower Hampton Road has been the scene of series of serious accidents as cars career round the bend, often in the middle of the road. The bent railings pictured here are testimony to a recent incident. Other accidents have resulted in personal injury and damage to vehicles. As far back as the 1960’s there were 3 fatalities on this stretch of road and a further fatality in 2000.

Why is this area still a 40mph zone? Why not at least reduce it to 30mph? It is a blind bend so why is there no signage warning of such? A solid line would at least indicate that traffic must stay in lane. That must be the least Surrey Highways should do.

At the other end of the village, traffic along the Fordbridge Road comes along at such speed from Shepperton that local resident Sylvia Homewood is frightened of pulling out of her driveway. Even putting her bin out for collection has become nerve wracking.

There seems to be more traffic and it cars are driving faster, with no thought for the danger to lives. In such a sleepy little village, surely it is not beyond the realms of possibility to put traffic calming measures in on the approaches to it.
