Village Matters

Sunbury Beat

By Inspector Matthew Walton, Borough Commander Spelthorne

Following up from my last piece in Sunbury Matters, I am pleased to be able to bring you an update.

In Sunbury, work has been completed in For-est Drive behind Sunbury Cross shopping centre, with all new security doors and the CCTV has been upgraded; this has been paid for via the Police Crime Commissioners Safer Streets fund. The next part of that funding has also started, to be used for the upgrades at the Sunbury Cross underpass with the lighting having been upgraded with LED bulbs vastly improving the visibility at night. The new mirrors are due to be upgraded this week with progress being made on the new CCTV. Once that’s all completed the underpass will be completely repainted and artwork installed from a number of local youth organisations/schools. I will keep you updated once there has been further progress.

Finally in Sunbury we completed a targeted day of action against a well-known organised crime group. This led to the charge of two individuals who recently pled guilty to the supply of class A drugs. Look out for an update soon on our Facebook site Spelthorne Beat for their sentences. This is a small snap shot of some of our work. We do and will continue to act on the information you provide to us about serious criminality so please send this thorough to us either via our online reporting system on the Surrey police website or you can send this anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers.

Shepperton

First an update from our last article with re-gards to the business watch in Shepperton with the local shops. PC Amy Norman has made some excellent progress in getting as many on board as possible with the next meeting which will be at 7pm on 6th Decem-ber. To maximise the number of retailers who can attend we’ve decided to try this meeting online via Microsoft Teams. If you are a local Shepperton Retailer interested in being involved in this meeting please email Amy.Norman@Surrey.Police.UK . If you are a non-retail business owner in Shepperton but think business watch might help support your crime prevention efforts, then please email Amy so she can discuss this with you.

I’m also pleased to inform you that we now have a new PCSO dedicated to Shepperton called Ruby Pyne who can be contacted via email at Ruby.Pyne@Surrey.Police.UK . This will mean we can do more community engagement and visible patrols in your area so that we can make it an ever-safer place to live/work. Please say hi if you see her around in your area so you can tell us what’s causing you concern. We are always looking at new locations/events to meet and talk to you so please email her or Amy if you have any sug-gestions. We are still recruiting PCSOs as we still have six vacancies on my team for this role so please go to www.surrey.police.uk/police-forces/surrey-police/areas/careers/careers/pcso/ to find out more if you or some-one you know is interested. We should have another PCSO starting with us in January who will be eventually posted to Sunbury once they have completed their tutoring period with one of our experienced PCSOs Gary Brett.

Thank you
