Rehearsals are well underway for a local Christmas treat, Themba Theatre’s performance of Elf Jr. at the Cecil Hepworth Playhouse in Walton from 17th – 19th December

Themba is a Shepperton-based amateur youth theatre group which raises money for Compassion UK, a charity which helps to bring children out of poverty.

Elf Jr is based on the popular movie Elf but with the addition of song and dance, in a specially-adapted 70 minute show. It is such fun and will definitely leave you full of Christmas spirit!

Themba will also soon premier its first film. Before Covid struck the kids were rehearsing Singing in the Rain Jr. When they realised they were not going to be able to perform this live, Themba filmed it in-stead, which was quite apt considering the plot is all about making movies. Due to restrictions, they couldn’t have more than 15 children at a time so the big chorus numbers had to be filmed in 3 separate groups! The cast are going to see the finished movie at Shepperton Studios cinema in January, and then there will be a public showing at the Jubilee Centre later in 2022.

This year the Themba team have also launched Themba Teens. Its members will perform the Agatha Christie murder mystery And Then There Were None at the Barn Theatre in Molesey on 14th and 15th January 2022.

Please do support Themba’s productions, starting with Elf Jr which runs 17th – 19th December. As Buddy Elf says: “The Best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear”. Buy your tickets from www.ticketsource.co.uk/thembatheatre
