Village Matters

Shepperton Residents Association

Hello again from your Local Residents’ Association!

Through all the disruption that the Covid pan-demic has caused over the past 18 months or so, we hope that you are keeping safe and well and are now managing some degree of normality in your lives. With the development of the vaccine and the ensuing pro-gramme of vaccinations, hopefully life is beginning to take shape again. Our sympathies go to those who have lost family or friends over the last year.

We will be holding our next OPEN MEET-ING at 8.00pm on Tuesday 21st September in the Village Hall and we hope many of you will be able to attend on that evening. We will discuss a few of the current topics that affect us all and there will be time for you to ask questions and to air your views. Local councillors will also be present.

If you are interested in knowing more about, and perhaps, joining the SRA committee, do let us know of your interest – either by calling one of us – see the list below – or by expressing your interest by talking to us at the Open Meeting on 21st September.

Key Issues that were raised in our current Newsletter were:

Planning:

Spelthorne Borough Council (SBC) activities are still limited due to Covid 19, but they are very active in supporting any residents who need help – details are available on the SBC website or call 01784 446446 / 448561.

Enforcement officers are also restricted in their activities at this time and therefore, together with law courts being limited, some planning enforcement issues remain outstanding.

Fly Tipping – please report any incidents to SBC Streetscene on 01784 446411.

Spelthorne Local Plan Consultation: Shepperton Residents’ Association (SRA) are submitting additional comments to the Local Plan being produced to cover a number of council policies over the next 15 years including local housing , environment issues, green belt policy and more. We will be monitoring progress of this plan very closely. There are aspects which will affect Staines in particular.

Sheep Walk: the Hamiltons site has now been vacated following an injunction order. Neighbouring land – Symbiotic Land – has also been investigated by council enforcement officers regarding dumped waste aggregate. Again, this has been closely monitored by the SRA and we have worked with Spelthorne Council on this issue.

Shepperton Studios Extension: As you may have noticed, the approved work has now commenced in the North-West portion of the site – north of the River Ash. Also, trenching works are underway around the site – North and South – laying new electricity cables for the extension.

These are quite evident on the Laleham Road. A consultation group has been set up by local councillors and residents’ associations with the Studios so that progress can be monitored and questioned if necessary. Members of the SRA committee are in that group.

ECO-PARK: The gasifier has not operated since Christmas 2020. The Anaerobic Digester is now working fully again after a period of reduced function. Complaints regarding smell, noise and light pollution caused by the site have been raised by local residents and made to SUEZ and the Environment Agency. Again the SRA are monitoring the ensuing investigation.

The (Priory) Stables, Chertsey Road: Enforcement notices are pending action with regard to demolition of the wall near the entrance to this site. The planning permission for 2 blocks of 4 stables each has been halved by the council planning inspector.

Other items being monitored by SRA’s member – Ken Snaith – are Littleton Lane Indus-trial Estate, where satisfactory progress is now being made regarding the new-look site. Also, the Bugle Nurseries site devel-opment involving a small number of houses is now being appealed – the planning inspector’s decision is expected sometime in the next few weeks.

Other Items:

Noise barriers along the M3 corridor in Shepperton – construction is now planned for Spring 2022, following drainage design changes

HIGH STREET – I have attempted to keep you updated about High Street fortunes and developments over the pandemic and I still, of course, encourage you – strongly – to use our local shops whenever possible. The High Street is the Heart of Shepperton and it’s community – We must support our local traders!
