Local Help for Hair Loss

By Monica Chard

Our hair is our crowning glory. We style it, dye it and embellish it as a sign of who we are. It gives us confidence. It’s often a statement. So imagine losing it! What can be done to reverse the problem?

Alopecia is a familiar term which we may understand as meaning ‘hair loss’. However, it can be a very misleading word. It simply means hair loss and there are several variations of it. Having ‘alopecia’ does not necessarily mean that you are going to completely lose all your hair. There can be many reasons for hair loss, some acute which happen quite suddenly such as trauma, anxiety and diet, or chronic which could have been going on for a significant amount of time. There may of course also be a more serious condition. If you or one of your loved ones are suffering from hair loss, help is at hand.

Kathryn Nash is a Trichologist and is based at Vicarage Farm, Lower Sunbury.

Kathryn started in the hair industry as a hair extensionist, but soon found that she particularly enjoyed helping people who were suffering hair loss. So she changed direction and qualified as a specialist. She opened the Harvey Smith Hair Enhancement Clinic to help people regain their crowning glory.

Kathryn offers consultation, diagnosis and treatment for many different hair loss conditions for men and women. She has taken on a new cutting edge machine that can offer hair loss treatments without the use of needles or painful treatment. (Interestingly the machine can also help acne).

The trichoscope allows Kathryn to look at the hair follicles and scalp, diagnose whether the condition is noncicatricial (non scarring) or cicatricial (scarring) and then treat accordingly.

Her clinic shares space with the Shepperton Wig Company and clients benefit from the support offered by both companies. In the case of irreversible hair loss, Kathryn can offer a range of extensions but she also has access to a range of specialist hair systems and wigs.

Hair loss can have a huge impact on someone’s life in what ever form it comes in. The message from Kathryn is loud and clear; “Don’t hold back and hide away. There is help and support. Just pick up the phone.”

Kathryn says, “I am very enthusiastic and excited about these new additions to the clinic and would love for the people of Shepperton to know about it.”
