Shepperton High Street Celebrated in Art

Continuing the theme of celebrating Shepperton through Art, Peggy Pickering’s Shepperton Artists came up trumps with their studies of High Street shops familiar to us all. Village Matters joined Cllr. Vivienne Leighton and Pat from the Greeno in judging during afternoon tea at The Greeno.

Within the group of more experienced artists we were unanimous in our award of first prize to David Whitson’s Prezzo, where he has captured both the conviviality of the interior and the contrasting dark and rain outside, reflected by lamp light.

Second prize went to Janet Chapman whose usual attention was evident in her depiction of McAteers rounded shop front. Third went to Sybil Wheeler’s depiction of the Newsagent.

In the inexperienced group the firm favourite and worthy winner was Jim Redpath who painted James’ the Butcher, complete with an opportunist dog eating sausages! Helen Turner and Jim Pothecary came second and third.

Cards have been produced of the paintings. They are available for sale at The Greeno or direct from Peggy on 01932 229907.
We also celebrated Peggy Pickering’s Civic Award for her services to Art in the Community. Well deserved Peggy!
