Sunbury Matters is a free monthly community magazine, launched in November 2011. The magazine is distributed to the Sunbury-on-Thames area every month but every issue is also available to read online right here.

Issue 46

We reflect on the centenary of WW1 with a song from local songwriter Keith Munday, and we look at the War Memorial in Sunbury. We take a stroll down Vicarage Road in the 1940’s. Back to the present day and residents are calling for speed restrictions coming into the village, for Sunbury to be in Zone 6 and for the Richmond Flood plans to consider the effect of us upstream.

As well as the usual offering of recipes, gardening tips and Sudoku we bring you an overview of local events concerning history and heritage and a report on when a V2 rocket struck Sunbury. We also report on connecting old friends through Sunbury Matters. Terry Pattinson lost contact with his old mates 50 years ago, but thanks to a call for contact through Sunbury Matters is being reunited with them.

This month we reminisce about events in Spelthorne during the Great War and how the event affected locals. With the recent Tour de Yorkshire and the increase in popularity of road cycling, we talk to Dennis Brock about his cycling adventures in the 1930s, in an era before lycra! We also update you on the flood relief campaigning and recent media focus.

The Big Clean up continues in Sunbury, with the lovely Sunbury Flood Volunteers out in force, doing their bit to get us all back on our feet. We meet a few of them and reflect on the aftermath. If you use Sunbury Park then take a look at the piece on the impact the arrival of cows might have on you. this is not all about dogs!
