Desborough Sailing Club

If you are looking for a sailing club not too far away, which sails a variety of dinghies, has competitive races, but is not too ‘competitive’, and in and has an active, lively and inexpensive ‘social’ side, then you need look no further than the Desborough Sailing Club, Ferry Lane Shepperton.

If you, or your children, want to learn to sail, then we run structured RYA (Royal Yachting Association) courses twice per year in the spring, around Easter-time and in the summer, just at the start of the School Summer Holidays.

These courses last for 4 days and are of a wide range of standards from complete beginners to ‘racing-improvers’ and youngsters (7-8 years old) to adults and ancient-mariners! Throughout the main part of the season we have less formal sessions for beginners and improvers, and it is not often that we cannot get you started on the water once you have joined the Club.

The membership cost for a family is £190/annum and you do not have to own a boat as we have club boats which for a modest donation can be borrowed. These seventeen dinghies are modern up-to-date designs and suitable for all skill-levels.

An important point is that Desborough Sailing Club is run by its members for its members, and all take a turn in the teams that run the races, serve soft drinks at the tea-bar or pull pints in the well-stocked bar. Of course there is help from the old-hands with all these tasks, and free instruction in using the safety boat which is at-the-ready during all Club sailing sessions.
