The Urban Dance School

The ultimate in cool and modern dance these days is surely the energetic modern dance called urban or street dancing. We have all seen it emerge on TV and on music videos, a kind of blend of free running and dance. Shepperton has its own expert who has performed all over the country, and worked with high profile pop stars from JLS to Mariah Carey.
Matt Walker and his partner Jean Paul Pillay founded The Urban Dance School (U.D.S) back in 2004. (You may know Matt as Daniela Walker’s son-as in Beauty by Daniela).

Their main objective was to teach and promote all types of Urban Dance including Street Dance, Break Dance (and various other types that you may not have heard of), as well as exploring other dance styles such as Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Tap, and even Animal Mime. UDS operate all over England and but have over 20 weekly classes running across Spelthorne, Surrey and Richmond every week.

The teaching staff of five are all current industry professionals with credits that include performing on television shows such as X-Factor and Britannia High. Between them they have notched up some impressive creds working with artists such as JLS, Alexandra Burke, Cheryl Cole, Gary Go, Olly Murs, Paloma Faith, Whitney Houston and Chris Brown. They also tour and show credits including Into The Hoods, Hair, Thriller Live, Riverdance, Hairspray, Mary Poppins and even the London 2012 Olympic Ceremony.

Matt himself has 9 choreography awards for contemporary street dance work. You have a chance to go and see UDS in action. They are performing their annual showcase at the Magna Arts Centre, Thorpe Road, Staines on December 14th and 15th. Doors open at 7pm. This is a chance for you to see some of the work from schools including Esher High, Thamesmead School, Magna Carta, Winston Churchill and other open classes. The performance will be urban dance based with additional styles on show such as Contemporary Dance. This is the culmination of work throughout the year from the local schools and classes.
